Nowadays we use that small pocket on our Jeans for various purpose as we want but it was designed for one useful purpose in 80's.
Back in 80's, There was a fashion in Cowboys of keeping costly chain watches. They use to keep these chain watches in there waistcoats. Sometimes they found its getting damaged in waistcoats.
So to keep these watches from getting broken, A famous jeans company Levi's introduced this small pocket where they could keep there watches.This was the only purpose of this pocket in 80's.
Peoples named this pocket as fob pocket. Because the chain that pocket watches were usually attached to is fob chain and so the another name for these pocket watch is fob watch.
This is the another story but the first design of the product Levi's 501, 1880 was reserved for the gold miners. This design have total five pockets, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear and 1 small pocket inside front right pocket. This pocket was deigned for gold miners to store gold granules to keep them safe. Now Jeans are produced by various company's and not just for miners, But the small pocket still remain.
